The Baker Left One Spoon on the Counter. The Weimaraner Found It.
A silver gray Weimaraner named Ash looks straight ahead with pale, amber-gray eyes while his long pink tongue sweeps across a spoon of orange pumpkin filling. His velvety ears hang down and his nose is the color of dusty rose. The kitchen behind him is in full holiday mode, with mini pumpkins, a plaid cloth, a bowl of cranberries, scattered pecans and cinnamon sticks across the counter.
Weimaraners are athletic, smart and very people-focused dogs, bred as hunting companions, and they often follow their owners from room to room. That curiosity can lead them to the kitchen counter. Plain canned pumpkin is often used in dog care, but pie filling is different, since it typically contains sugar, spices such as nutmeg and sometimes ingredients that are not safe for dogs. A single lick is usually minor, but it is best to keep spoons and bowls out of reach, and ask your vet if you are unsure. A busy Weimaraner also benefits from plenty of exercise and puzzle toys before the cooking starts.
Ash looks calm and satisfied, with the air of a dog who has just discovered a new favorite flavor. The spoon is almost clean, and his face holds no guilt at all. Some dogs are born taste testers, and Ash seems to be a professional who takes the work very seriously.
