Domino Chose the Middle of the Pumpkin Patch to Sit
Orange pumpkins crowd in on every side, and a black and white tuxedo cat sits calmly in the middle of them, as though she grew there herself. Her white bib and socks look crisp against the dark coat, and golden eyes glance to the left with curious attention. Bits of straw and green vines cover the ground, and in the background a house glows with the warm lights of early evening. A single round pumpkin in the foreground makes a perfect frame for her.
Tuxedo cats are not a breed but a coat pattern, and you can find it in all sorts of cats with different personalities. Many owners describe them as outgoing and talkative, but every cat is different. If your cat joins you near pumpkins this season, know that fresh pumpkin flesh is generally safe in small amounts, but the stems, vines, and rotting pumpkins can upset a stomach or grow mold. Keep curious cats away from carved pumpkins that have been outside for several days. And if you plan a trip to a patch, keep your cat leashed or safely at home, as unfamiliar places can be stressful and a fall from a pile of pumpkins can hurt.
We might call her Domino. She appears to be taking a careful inventory of the patch, deciding which pumpkin is the largest and which would make the best napping spot. In a field of orange giants, the smallest creature clearly holds the most authority.
