A Beagle Sat Front and Center on Christmas Morning
Up front, a tricolor Beagle sits with his long ears hanging and his soulful brown eyes turned to one side, nose twitching as if he can smell the ribbons. Behind him, a smiling man and a little girl in a pink sweater are opening gifts beside a glowing Christmas tree. Torn wrapping paper with pine branch patterns is strewn across the carpet, a box of blankets sits open, and a plaid package waits nearby. A sofa, a pillow, and a basket complete the cozy room.
Beagles are social dogs with a very powerful sense of smell, and they love to be involved in family activities. On gift-opening mornings, the commotion can be exciting for a dog, so some pets need a quiet break. Offer a chew toy or a stuffed treat toy to keep your dog occupied, and clean up wrapping paper, ribbons, and tape that could be eaten. Be sure any gifts with food or chocolate stay out of a Beagle's reach, since their noses can find almost anything. Dogs enjoy being part of the family, so a few pets and a toy of their own go a long way.
We might call him Copper. He is happy just to be there, close to the voices and the paper and the smell of pine. He may not get a present, but he has everything he needs: his people, his place on the rug, and a very good view.
