A Silver Maine Coon Reached Up and Pulled an Ornament Down
With one paw on the branch and the other tugging a red ornament, a silver Maine Coon stands tall at the edge of the tree. Her fluffy fur is silver and gray, her ears are tufted, and her pale eyes are fixed on the ornament. The bottom branches are dotted with wooden beads, and the lower ornaments sway slightly. Behind her, the living room is lit by sunlight and a warm lamp, with a sofa full of blankets, a basket, a wooden floor, and a plant on a side table.
Maine Coons are big, strong cats that love to climb, so a Christmas tree with low ornaments is almost impossible to resist. They are playful into adulthood and often keep a kitten-like sense of fun. To protect both the tree and the cat, place the tree on a sturdy base, and consider anchoring it. Use unbreakable ornaments on lower branches and keep fragile or food-based ones higher. Avoid hooks that can be swallowed and tinsel that can be dangerous if eaten. If your cat swallows something she should not, call your vet immediately. A tall cat tree near the window can also give her a better place to climb.
The ornament swings and the cat grins in her own way, a clear sign that the game has begun. It is a very big cat on a very small mission.
