A Giant Saint Bernard and His Person Reach for the Tree Star
A large red and white Saint Bernard rises on his hind legs with his front paws on a woman's shoulders, and his big head tilts up toward the star at the top of the tree. He wears a blue bandana, and she looks up at him with a laugh. The tree is covered with gold and red ornaments and pinecones, with gifts piled beneath it and a bright window and a cozy living room behind.
Saint Bernards are famous for their size and gentle personalities, and they are often called patient and affectionate with families. A dog this large can weigh well over a hundred pounds, so even a friendly hug takes thought. Teach him to keep four paws on the floor when guests arrive, and keep in mind that big dogs can knock over trees, decorations, and small children without meaning to. Anchor the tree in a sturdy stand. Large breeds may also be prone to joint trouble, so talk to your vet about weight and exercise. Saint Bernards also drool and overheat easily, so a cool, quiet room is a good place for them to rest.
For all their size, many are happiest when they are close to their family, and that includes taking part in decorating.
He has the best view in the house, and he knows it.
