Nobody Got Around to the Dishes. The Sphynx Volunteered Instead.

Dinner cleanup has found an unexpected supervisor. A pink hairless Sphynx cat sits squarely in the kitchen sink, perched among plates still smeared with pasta and sauce, forks and spoons jutting out at odd angles, and a glass mug of cold coffee at its side. Its wrinkled forehead, oversized ears, and pale green eyes give it a look of serious concentration as it gazes out toward the window. Beyond the sink, a counter holds folded towels, a sponge, potted succulents, and a few onions catching the late afternoon light.

Sphynx cats often seek out warm spots and cozy surfaces because, without a coat of fur, they lose body heat more easily than most cats. That is one reason they love blankets, sunny windows, and their people's laps. Their skin also produces oils that a coat would normally absorb, so many owners give them regular baths and wipe their ears and skin folds. Dirty dishes are not the ideal hangout, though. Leftover food can contain ingredients that are not safe for cats, such as onions or garlic, which are toxic to them. Rinsing plates promptly and keeping cats off counters with tall cat perches nearby can help.

Still, you have to admire the confidence. This little dishwasher has clearly decided the job is done, and it is waiting for someone to bring a towel.
