A Black Pug Investigates the Trash and Gets Caught on the Lawn
On the grass, a black garbage bag has been torn wide open, and wrappers, peels, and bits of paper scatter across the lawn. A small black Pug sits right beside it, the ears flat and the dark eyes glancing sideways, a perfect picture of a sheepish dog. A flower pot lies tipped over by the fence, and the morning light shines through the trees.
Trash is a gold mine of smells to a dog, and many dogs will raid a bag the moment they get the chance. Garbage can contain things that are harmful to pets, like spoiled food, bones, cooking fat, and sharp packaging, so it's best to use a lidded can that locks, and to keep it in the garage or behind a gate. If your dog eats something from the trash, watch for vomiting or a swollen belly and call your vet. Pugs especially love food, and because of their small size and short noses they should keep a healthy weight, so measured meals and safe treats are best.
Cleaning this up will take a little while, with gloves and a good bit of patience. The Pug would like it known that he was only investigating, and the rest was an accident, which happens to the best of us. At least the lawn will be tidy again soon, and the dog will spend the afternoon dreaming about those wonderful smells, tail curled and happy.
