The Yorkie Pulled Down the Curtain and Froze Right Inside It
From behind a long, frayed curtain, a blue and tan Yorkshire Terrier looks out with his eyes opened wide, as if he were a very small actor on a very big stage. The fabric hangs in tattered strips around him, and one side has been pulled right off its rail. A soft carpet, a coffee mug on the floor, and a pile of toys are scattered behind him, and everything is bathed in warm daylight.
Yorkies were originally bred to catch rats in textile mills, so a hanging cloth that moves and swings may trigger a deep terrier instinct to grab and shake. They are bold, intelligent, and a bit stubborn. Curtains can also be a hazard, because dogs can get tangled in cords or pull heavy rods down on themselves. Keeping cords out of reach and giving a Yorkie a tug toy for that urge is a better plan. If your dog swallows fabric, talk to your vet.
The tiny terrier seems to believe he can disappear into the fabric as long as he keeps perfectly still. It is a charming plan, though the floppy ears and the bright eyes give him away. The curtain will need to be rehung or replaced, and he will have to practice a bit more patience. For now, the show is his, and the audience is smiling.
