A British Shorthair Gathered Up Every Sock She Could Carry

AI imagebritish shorthairstolen sockslaundry

Socks of gray, white, and navy stripes overflow from the mouth of a cream British Shorthair, and her amber eyes stare straight ahead with a guilty glow. Her round face is plump, her ears are small and rounded, and her plush coat looks soft as velvet. A laundry basket and a pile of clothes sit behind her, and a wooden floor stretches out across the room. She looks like a cat who has just finished a very successful raid.

Many cats like to carry soft items in their mouths, and socks smell strongly of their owners, which makes them especially interesting. British Shorthairs are calm, easygoing cats with dense coats and a gentle nature, and they often enjoy a quiet routine. Socks can be dangerous if swallowed, since fabric can cause a blockage, so keep laundry in a closed hamper and call your vet right away if she eats one. Some cats also drag items around because they want attention, so a daily play session can help. Trading a toy for the socks can teach her to drop them.

She holds her treasure proudly, and she is not planning to give it up easily. The laundry will need to be sorted again, and the socks will need a wash. But she looks so serious and so pleased that you almost want to let her keep one.
