A White Cat in a Puddle of Milk Has a Few Things to Explain

AI imagewhite catspilled milkkitchen

A glass of milk met an unfortunate end, and the white cat is standing right in the middle of the puddle. Milk spreads across the wooden floor in a glossy pool, a few drops still splashing around her paws, and her ears are tilted back in a sheepish look. Behind her, a kitchen cabinet and a pair of shoes by the door suggest an ordinary morning that took a turn.

Cartoons have long shown cats happily lapping up bowls of milk, but real cats are a bit more complicated. Many adult cats have trouble digesting the lactose in cow's milk, which can lead to an upset stomach. A little spilled milk is rarely an emergency, but cats are better served by fresh water and good cat food. If you want to give a treat, there are milk products made especially for cats.

Cleaning up quickly matters too, since milk left on the floor can sour and smell, and wet floors can be slippery for people and pets alike. A white coat, as this cat shows, can pick up every drop and need a gentle wipe afterward.

She seems to realize that standing in the puddle is not helping her case. Still, she has an innocent face, soft eyes and a plausible story about how the glass jumped off the counter on its own. It may not hold up, but it is certainly a gentle way to be caught.
