An Exotic Shorthair Froze With a Chewed Slipper Still in Her Mouth
Golden eyes the size of coins and a slipper in her mouth: the cream Exotic Shorthair has been caught mid-carry, and she is not moving a muscle. The slipper is chewed through, with stuffing hanging out of the toe and shreds of gray fabric dangling from the edges. The room behind her is a happy mess, with a knitted blanket, a potted plant, a small toy ball, a feather toy, and another slipper lying on the floor. Her flat little face looks wide-eyed and frozen, as though she has just heard footsteps.
Exotic Shorthairs have the sweet, round face of a Persian with a shorter, easier coat, and they are known for being gentle and affectionate. Cats sometimes carry soft items in their mouths, which can be a form of play or hunting behavior. Slippers are especially interesting because they smell like their owners. Give your cat soft toys to carry, and keep slippers in a closet. Swallowed pieces of slipper lining or stuffing can cause problems, so ask your vet if you think she swallowed some.
She looks frozen in place, and the result is wonderful. The slipper has lost the battle, but the cat has gained a trophy. Soon the footsteps will arrive and the whole house will find out, but for now, she holds her prize and hopes for the best.
