The Maine Coon Queen Held Court From Her High Spot and Blinked Slowly

Tufted ears, long lynx-like tips and a thick golden-brown ruff make this Maine Coon queen look every bit as grand as her crown. The gold crown has red jewels and little points, and it sits right between her ears. A wide ermine cape with black spots lies on her shoulders over a deep blue velvet robe trimmed in golden laurel leaves. Her tabby stripes run down the thick fur of her chest, and her pale green-gold eyes look out with calm assurance. Behind her, a stone column and olive drapes fill the shadows.

Maine Coons are among the largest domestic cats, with shaggy, water-resistant coats and a gentle, sociable personality. They are often described as dog-like, since many follow their people from room to room and enjoy games of fetch. Their long fur should be brushed regularly, especially on the belly and the ruff, to prevent mats. They grow slowly, taking up to a few years to reach full size, so good nutrition and regular vet visits are important. They also enjoy tall cat trees and sturdy perches where they can see the whole room.

The queen holds court from her high spot, calm and fluffy and sure of her place. Her subjects may bring her gifts of tuna, and she will accept them with a regal blink. Long live the queen, and long may her tail sweep the palace floor in a most dignified way.
