The Cavalry Officer Wore the Tallest Plume in the Regiment
Blue and purple feathers sweep upward from a gold helmet worn by a brown tabby cavalry officer, and beneath it a pair of amber eyes watches calmly. The tabby face has bold dark stripes and a soft white chin. A navy uniform with teal collar trim, gold fringed epaulettes, and a draped crimson sash gives him a dashing look. Behind him, a Victorian room of gold wallpaper and carved wood glows softly, and tiny cracks run over the old canvas like a map of time. He seems entirely unbothered by the heavy headgear.
Brown tabby is one of the most common cat coat patterns, and the stripes appear on many breeds as well as on mixed-breed cats. The classic M-shaped mark on the forehead is a famous tabby feature. American Shorthairs are sturdy, easygoing cats known for being good with families and good at keeping mice away. They tend to enjoy play but are not usually demanding. Because they love food, watching portion sizes helps prevent weight gain, and regular play with wand toys keeps them fit. Talk to your vet about vaccines, dental care, and a diet that suits your cat's age.
The officer is ready for the parade, but the horse may be a problem. He would sooner lead a charge toward his supper bowl, one precise paw step at a time, with plumes waving and not a whisker out of place.
