The Lord Spun the Globe and Chose the Nearest Place to Nap
Big, soft eyes and drooping jowls give this Saint Bernard a thoughtful, kindly look. His red-and-white face is framed by a thick white ermine collar dotted with black tails. He wears a green velvet coat embroidered with gold leaves over a burgundy waistcoat and a white lace cravat. At his shoulder, an antique globe sits on a wooden stand, showing faded seas and continents. Behind him are carved wooden walls and a deep red curtain. The lord looks as though he has just finished planning a very long journey and has decided to nap instead.
Saint Bernards are famous for their gentle, patient natures and for their history as mountain rescue dogs in the Swiss Alps. They are huge, so they need space, sturdy beds, and a diet that fits a large dog. Puppies should not be over-exercised while their bones are growing, and large breeds can be prone to joint problems, so ask your vet about healthy weight and activity. They tend to drool, so keep a towel handy, and they overheat easily, so shade, water, and cool floors help. Most are wonderful with children.
The lord has the world at his paws, but he would trade it for a cool floor and a bowl of dinner. The globe can wait, and so can the empire, but dinner certainly cannot, and he knows exactly what time it is.
