The Cavalier Captain Studied His Sea Charts, Then Looked Up Softly
The ship's captain has chestnut ears that nearly reach his shoulders, and he wears them well. A ruby Cavalier King Charles Spaniel peers out from under a black tricorn hat edged with gold braid, his big dark eyes soft and a little solemn. His rich red-brown coat glows against a navy captain's coat with gold epaulettes and brass buttons, and a small anchor decorates the collar. Behind him, a desk holds a brass telescope, rolled charts, and old books, with dark curtains hanging against golden wallpaper.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are gentle, affectionate dogs that love people. They usually get along well with children and other pets, and they adapt to apartments as well as houses if given daily walks and playtime. Their silky ears need regular brushing and gentle cleaning, and the breed can be prone to some heart conditions, so regular vet visits are particularly valuable. They dislike being left alone for long stretches, since they want to be close to their family.
The telescope and charts suggest a captain who has seen many oceans. Yet his sweet, serious face gives him away as the kind of leader who shares his biscuits with the crew. Under a good captain like this one, even a stormy sea would feel a little safer, and every sailor would come home with a story.
