The Gardener Picked the Best Roses and Brought Them in a Wicker Basket
A sprig of rosemary is tucked into the green velvet cap of this brown tabby gardener, whose golden eyes stare out calmly. He wears a green velvet jacket embroidered with leaves, a cream apron, and a puffed sleeve trimmed in tan. One furry paw holds a small wicker basket filled with pink and rose-colored roses, still wet with leaves and stems. Behind him a Renaissance countryside spreads out, with red-roofed buildings, tall cypress trees, and blue mountains fading into soft clouds. He looks like he has been out working in the garden since sunrise.
The cat's striped coat is painted with fine, careful lines that follow the shape of his face, and the round pink roses glow against the green and brown tones. Renaissance painters were fond of flowers because they could symbolize beauty and care.
Tabby is a coat pattern found in many kinds of cats, not a breed, and tabbies are known for being friendly, adaptable, and playful. Garden plants can be risky for cats, though, so if you keep a garden or flowers indoors, check with your vet or a trusted plant list, since some, like lilies, are very dangerous to cats. Make sure your cat has fresh water, a scratching post, and plenty of safe play. Short coats need only a weekly brush.
Every rose in the royal garden is carefully tended, and every sunny spot is carefully tested for napping.
