The Golden Retriever Musician Held the Violin Like a Favorite Toy
A warm golden face with soft, attentive brown eyes rises above a white ruff, and a violin rests across the chest of a green and red coat embroidered in gold. One paw holds the instrument carefully, and the red and gold patterned wall behind him seems to glow in the lamplight. The Golden Retriever looks the way these dogs always do: happy to be included and eager to please. Maestro Honeycomb is clearly the court's most popular performer, mostly because he plays every request, including the ones nobody made.
Golden Retrievers were developed in Scotland as gundog retrievers, and the gentle mouth that carries game also makes them excellent at carrying toys. They are friendly, trusting and eager to learn, which is why they are so often chosen as family dogs and helpers. They need daily exercise, playtime and company. Their thick double coat sheds heavily, so regular brushing helps, and swimming is a favorite activity. Goldens love to eat, so portion control matters, and your vet can guide you on weight and joint care. Training with treats and praise comes naturally to this breed, and puppies stay playful for years.
The violin may sound a little squeaky in his paws, but the court will cheer anyway. Goodwill carries a concert much further than perfect notes. Even if a few notes go wrong, he will wag his way through the final bow.
