The Laundry Was Folded and Ready. Then the Puppies Arrived.
The laundry was folded, and then the puppies arrived. Two black and tan Dachshunds have claimed a wicker basket full of clean towels and striped shirts, settling in shoulder to shoulder as if it were built just for them. One sits a little taller, gazing off to the side with a thoughtful expression, while the other leans close and rests its head, looking straight ahead with gentle brown eyes. Their sleek black coats shine with tan markings on the brows, cheeks, and paws. A pair of grey slippers and a doorway leading to the rest of the house sit in the background.
Many dogs love curling up in laundry baskets because clean or worn clothes smell like their favorite people. That familiar scent is comforting, especially for young puppies in a new home. If your puppy keeps sneaking into the laundry, consider giving it a worn T-shirt or old towel in its own bed, which can help it settle down and feel secure. Keep an eye on socks and small items, though. Puppies are notorious for chewing and swallowing socks, which can cause dangerous blockages. If you suspect your dog has swallowed fabric and is vomiting, not eating, or acting lethargic, contact your vet promptly.
These two seem perfectly content to wait until someone carries the basket upstairs. Laundry day might take a little longer, but it's a lot more fun with company like this.
