A Basset Hound Puppy Flopped Over on the Lawn With His Paws in the Air
Upside down and totally relaxed, a lemon and white Basset Hound puppy has flopped sideways on a sunny lawn. His paws are waving in the air, one soft ear is crumpled beneath his head, and his dark eyes gaze at the camera with a sleepy, playful look. A weathered wooden fence and a patch of garden mark the edge of the grass behind him.
A dog who rolls onto his back or side is often relaxed and happy, although rolling can mean different things in different moments. In the grass, it is often a comfortable scratch or a way to pick up smells. Basset Hounds have loose skin and long bodies, and they love a good roll. Make sure the lawn is free from fertilizer, pesticide and sharp objects, and check for ticks and fleas after outdoor play. Their long ears sweep the ground and gather dirt and seeds, so check them carefully. Because of their weight, give puppies short, fun play periods instead of long runs, and avoid jumping. A puppy who feels safe enough to roll in front of you is showing a high level of trust.
With his legs in the air and his face full of joy, this pup seems to have no worries at all. The grass is warm, and the afternoon is endless. A breeze ruffles his ears, a bee hums somewhere nearby, and nobody in this yard has anywhere to be.
