Five Sable Corgi Puppies Hopped Into a Kiddie Pool and Splashed Around
Water ripples around five sable puppies who have waded into a big blue kiddie pool, with their paws splashing and their tongues out. Two stand at the front looking at the camera, one leans over the rim, and the others crowd in behind. A woven basket, a pile of laundry, and a small dog bone sit on the floor nearby, hinting that this pool party began indoors.
Shallow water play can be a great way to introduce puppies to splashing. Keep the water only a few inches deep, watch closely every second, and let the puppies get in on their own terms. Some Corgis love water and others prefer to watch, and neither is wrong. A treat or a favorite toy can encourage a nervous pup to dip a paw.
After pool time, dry the puppies well, especially their ears and the skin under their thick coat, since damp fur can cause irritation. Empty the pool afterward, because standing water attracts bugs and bacteria. Puppies sometimes drink pool water, which can upset their stomachs, so offer fresh water too. Corgis have short legs and long backs, so a pool with low sides helps keep them from straining to climb in and out. If you have questions about water safety for a young dog, talk to your vet.
The splashing goes on, and the five little swimmers seem to have no interest in getting out.
