Grandpa Was Stitching a Quilt When Mochi Found the Comfiest Spot in the Room
Every stitch is slow and deliberate, and Mochi has decided this is the perfect time for a nap. Grandpa sits in a sunlit room in an olive sweater vest and cream shirt, threading a needle through a patchwork quilt of soft blues, yellows, and floral prints. Right in front of him, the black pug has sprawled across a towering stack of folded fabric squares, chin flat, eyes shut, utterly at peace. Baskets of material, shopping bags of supplies, and more folded quilts fill the room, and warm light streams in from the windows behind them.
Dogs gravitate toward fabric piles for good reasons. Soft materials hold warmth and carry their person's scent, which can feel safe and comforting. Pugs in particular are famous for seeking out the coziest spot in any room. If you sew, quilt, or knit with a dog around, keep an eye on small supplies. Needles, pins, and thread can be very dangerous if swallowed, and thread attached to a needle is a known hazard for curious pets. Storing supplies in lidded containers and checking the floor after a session helps. If you ever suspect your dog has swallowed a needle or thread, contact your vet right away rather than waiting for symptoms.
Perhaps the finished quilt will end up on Grandpa's bed, or maybe it will become Mochi's. Judging by how comfortable he looks already, he's made his preference pretty clear.
