Grandma and Grandpa Were Fixing the Fence. Misty Showed Up With Supplies.
Every good repair crew needs a supply runner. Grandma, in a green jacket and glasses, grips a hammer as she lines up a nail on the new board, while Grandpa, in a tan cap and work jacket, steadies a fence plank with careful hands. A toolbox full of nails, a tape measure, and a few brackets sit on the workbench. Planted right in the middle of the project is Misty the Russian Blue, her ears turned forward and a thin twig clamped proudly in her mouth, ready to hand it over whenever the crew asks.
Light outdoor projects like gardening and small repairs can be a great way for older adults to stay active and engaged. They involve stretching, reaching, and problem solving, and finishing a task brings real satisfaction. When pets are part of the scene, a little extra caution helps. Nails, screws, and small hardware should be kept in closed containers, since cats may bat them around or step on them. Tools should be set down safely rather than left on the ground. Russian Blues are typically observant and mild-mannered, so many are content to watch from nearby, but any cat may want to investigate something new. A safe perch with a view keeps them part of the fun without getting underfoot.
The fence may take an extra hour with such an enthusiastic assistant, but nobody here seems to mind. Some jobs are just more fun with company, especially company that brings her own stick.
