Laundry Day Was Going Smoothly Until One of the Sheets Became a Ride
Laundry day was going smoothly until the sheets became a ride. Grandpa stands at the line with a fistful of wooden clothespins clipped to his vest, carefully pinning up another white sheet. Right in front of him, one of the freshly hung sheets has sagged into a perfect sling, and Domino is sitting in the middle of it, legs dangling through the fabric, yellow eyes wide with a mix of delight and alarm. A wicker basket of clothes waits by the house, and late daylight softens everything.
Cats are irresistibly drawn to laundry. Clean sheets and towels are soft, often still warm, and they smell like the people the cat loves most. Baskets of clothes also make enclosed, cozy hideouts. That fondness is usually harmless, but it's worth building one safety habit: always check the washer and dryer before closing the door and starting a cycle, since cats sometimes climb inside to nap. Keep detergent pods and dryer sheets stored away as well, because they can be harmful if chewed. If your cat loves to be suspended in a soft sling, a cat hammock that attaches to a window or a sturdy frame can offer the same fun indoors.
Grandpa hasn't decided yet whether to rescue the cat or the sheet first. Domino seems in no hurry for either.
Fresh air, sunshine, and a swinging bed. Some laundry days are better than others.
