The Neighborhood Turned White, so Grandpa Lifted His Dalmatian to the Window
Outside, the neighborhood has turned white, with snow piled on rooftops and soft flakes drifting past the glass. Inside, Grandpa has scooped Domino up in his arms so the Dalmatian can get a proper look. The big spotted dog rests his front paws over Grandpa's forearm, chin lifted, gazing out at the wintry street with calm curiosity. Grandpa, in his olive vest and plaid flannel shirt, holds him close and smiles gently under his white mustache. A crocheted blanket drapes over a chair behind them, and a coat hangs on a hook by the wall.
Lifting a dog the size of a Dalmatian takes some care, both for the dog and for your back. Bend at the knees rather than the waist, support the chest with one arm and the hindquarters with the other, and keep the dog close to your body. If lifting is difficult, a ramp or a sturdy step stool can help a dog reach a window perch on its own. As for winter, Dalmatians have short, thin coats that don't offer much protection from the cold, so a dog jacket can help during chilly walks. Keep outings shorter in freezing weather and wipe paws afterward to remove ice and salt.
Domino seems perfectly happy to admire the snow from the warm side of the glass. Wrapped in Grandpa's arms, the winter world looks pretty magical.
