Grandpa Was Pinning Up a Shirt When the Laundry Line Became a Racetrack
Laundry day is supposed to be quiet work, but Domino has turned it into a race course. The Dalmatian bounds across the yard in mid-gallop, tail streaming behind him, mouth wide open in a gleeful grin. Grandpa stands beside the clothesline in his worn cap and fishing vest, studded with colorful lures, reaching up to clip a white shirt with a wooden clothespin. A whole line of sheets, towels, and shirts flaps in the late afternoon breeze, a basket of clothes sits on the ground, and a few pairs of shoes are scattered across the patio.
Reading a dog's body language helps you know when play is truly playful. A relaxed, open mouth, loose wiggly body, bouncy movements, and play bows, with the front end down and rear end up, are classic signs of a dog having fun. Signs of stress look different: a tightly closed mouth, tucked tail, pinned-back ears, lip licking, or showing the whites of the eyes. Dalmatians are energetic and enthusiastic, so lots of happy running and zooming is normal for them. Watching for these signals helps you know when to keep the game going and when to give your dog a chance to calm down.
There's no doubt which category Domino falls into today. Every wiggle and bound says this is the best laundry day ever, and Grandpa can't help but smile.
