The Rain Ruined Their Walk, but Roy and Copper Found a Better Plan

AI imagegolden retrieverrainfront porch

Rain streams off the edge of the porch roof in silver threads, and the backyard beyond has turned a deep, soaked green. Roy sits in his chair under the cover of the porch, wearing a plaid flannel shirt and brown suspenders, his profile calm and thoughtful as he gazes out at the weather. Copper sits right beside him, his rich mahogany coat thick and glossy, head held high and eyes turned toward the falling rain with quiet interest. Pots of plants along the railing glisten with water, and the wet boards of the porch reflect the soft gray light.

Many Golden Retrievers do not mind the rain one bit, and some would happily go out and splash in it. Their water-resistant double coat helps, but a soaked Golden can stay damp near the skin for a long time. After rainy walks, towel your dog thoroughly and pay special attention to the ears, armpits, and between the toes, where moisture can lead to irritation or infections. Wet weather also brings muddy paws, so keeping a towel by the door is a classic dog-owner trick. If thunder rolls in and your dog seems anxious, offering a quiet, cozy space and staying calm yourself can help. Ask your vet if storm anxiety becomes a regular struggle.

Neither of them seems to be in any rush for the rain to end. Sometimes the best plan for a gray afternoon is simply a good chair and a good friend beside you.
