Grandpa Was Hanging Clean Sheets on the Line. Then Something Came Flying Through.

Laundry day has gone sideways in the backyard. Grandpa Earl, glasses pushed up on his head, is pinning a row of white sheets and towels to the clothesline with wooden clothespins, a basket of more washing at his feet. Mid-task, a striped tabby has come flying straight through the hanging linens, legs stretched out and eyes wide, caught in a spectacular mid-air leap. And down in the corner, sitting perfectly still beside a pot of herbs, Peaches the Sphynx watches the whole spectacle with her big pink ears up and an expression of calm disapproval, as if she would never dream of behaving that way.

Hanging laundry is an irresistible playground for many cats. Flapping fabric moves unpredictably, which triggers the instinct to chase and pounce, and the gaps between sheets make perfect tunnels. To keep things safe, store clothespins out of reach, since small objects can be chewed or swallowed, and avoid leaving laundry detergents or fabric softener where curious cats can step in or lick them. It's also worth noting how different two cats can be. A tabby with a full coat may be happy romping in the yard, while a hairless Sphynx feels cooler temperatures and the sun much more and may prefer to watch from a comfortable, sheltered spot.

Earl may have to rewash a sheet or two, but the yard has never been livelier. One cat brings the action, the other provides the commentary, and the laundry gets a little more adventure than it bargained for.
