Grandpa Set Out Breakfast on the Patio. One Tiny Bite Was Never Meant for Him.
Sunlight spills across a weathered patio table set with a mug of coffee, a croissant, avocado slices, blueberries, and a few cubes of cheese. Grandpa Ray holds a tiny morsel between his fingers and smiles down warmly, already knowing who it is for. Pickles, her long, wavy chocolate-dapple coat shining, leans in with her mouth open and her eyes locked on that bite, ears soft and tail likely wagging out of view. Behind them, potted herbs, flowering plants, and an old wooden fence surround a peaceful backyard patio.
Sharing breakfast with a dog can be done safely if you choose carefully. A few blueberries are generally considered a healthy treat, and a small cube of plain cheese is fine for many dogs, though some have trouble with dairy. Avocado is often listed as a food to avoid, and its pit is a choking and blockage hazard. Croissants are buttery and rich, which is not ideal for small dogs, and coffee should never be shared because caffeine is toxic. For Dachshunds especially, keeping treats tiny and occasional helps prevent weight gain that puts pressure on their long backs. A good rule is to keep treats to a small part of the day's food, and ask your vet if you are unsure.
Pickles is getting her little bite, and from the look on her face, it is the best part of the whole breakfast. Grandpa Ray clearly enjoys giving it just as much.
