Grandpa Laid Out Every Fabric Square for His Quilt. Someone Claimed the Middle.

AI imagedachshundquiltingsewing

Patchwork squares in faded blues, soft pinks, and buttery yellows cover the whole table, and Grandpa Ray is hand-stitching them together one careful seam at a time. Glasses perched on his nose, needle pinched between his fingers, he leans in with deep focus. His vest pockets bristle with scissors, pencils, and spools of thread. Right in the middle of the colorful mess, Pickles has made herself a bed. She is curled up on the pile of fabric, chin resting on a floral square, eyes shut, completely at peace among the patterns. A basket of yarn, a glass of water, and a sunny window fill out the cozy sewing corner.

Quilting is a wonderful, absorbing hobby, and many dogs love to curl up on soft fabric nearby. A sewing table does hold a few hazards, though. Pins and needles are easy to drop and can be stepped on or swallowed, which may require urgent vet care. Thread and loose strings are risky, too, since swallowed thread can cause serious intestinal problems. A magnetic pin dish, a closed box for notions, and a quick sweep with a magnet after each session can help. Dachshunds are curious little explorers, so it is wise to keep supplies up high and give your dog a designated comfy spot, like an old fabric remnant on the floor, to call their own.

Pickles may not be sewing a stitch, but she is certainly testing the comfort level. Judging by that deep sleep, this quilt is going to be a cozy one.
