Grandma Bea Put On Her Headphones and an Old Record. Dumpling Had One Request.
A record spins on a wooden turntable by the sunny window, and a row of album sleeves leans in a crate beside it. Grandma Bea has slipped on a pair of over-ear headphones, her silver hair spilling out around them, and settled back into the couch in a chunky oatmeal cardigan. She smiles down at Dumpling, who has rested his heavy white head and front paws on her lap, gazing up at her with soft, adoring eyes. A tissue box, stacked books, a houseplant, and a draped throw blanket fill the cozy living room around them.
Listening to music is a lovely way to relax, and for many older adults, old records bring back memories and lift the mood. Dogs often pick up on that calm energy and want to be close. While the headphones keep the volume to herself, many dog owners also play soft music aloud for their pets, especially when they are home alone, because gentle, slow songs can help some dogs settle. Bulldogs are naturally affectionate and love lap time, but their weight means a full Bulldog on your lap can be a lot. A pillow under their front half or a seat right next to you can keep everyone comfortable.
Whatever is playing on that record, it must be a good one. Grandma Bea is lost in the music, and Dumpling is lost in his favorite person. Some afternoons do not need anything more than a good song and good company.
