Grandpa Opened the Morning Paper. He Hasn't Turned a Page Since.
Clarence had every intention of reading the morning paper. It is still there, spread across his knees, with his reading glasses resting on the pages. But somewhere between the headlines and the sports section, Sapphire the blue point Siamese poured herself into his lap and fell fast asleep. Now she lies curled in a soft gray-cream crescent against his chunky knit cardigan, dark paws tucked, face pressed into the crook of his arm. Clarence gazes down at her with the gentle, resigned look of a man who knows he will not be turning any pages for a while.
Siamese cats are known for being unusually people-oriented. They tend to bond closely with their humans, follow them from room to room, and seek out laps and warm spots. Many are famously talkative, with loud, expressive voices they use to ask for attention, meals, or company. Blue point Siamese have the breed's pale body with cool, slate-gray points on the ears, face, paws, and tail, along with those striking blue eyes. Because they are so social, Siamese often do best in homes where someone is around much of the day, which can make them a lovely match for retirees who enjoy companionship and conversation, even one-sided.
The living room around them is pleasantly cluttered with mugs, baskets, and family photos on the wall. Clarence's coffee is cooling on the side table, and the news will keep. Sapphire has made her decision about how this morning should go, and he seems perfectly happy to agree.
