Grandpa Ken Was Pinning Up Clean Sheets. Something Was Moving Underneath.

Laundry day has an inspector. While Grandpa Ken clips a crisp white sheet to the line with a wooden clothespin, Domino marches out from beneath the hanging fabric with his yellow eyes wide and his whiskers fanned forward. Behind them sits a wicker basket overflowing with towels and shirts, a pair of gray slippers rests on the floor, and a potted plant leans in from the corner. Ken wears his tan sweater vest over a blue shirt and concentrates on getting the corner just right, while Domino looks like he has very important business somewhere off to the left.

Hanging sheets are basically a cat playground. They sway, they make tunnels, and they hide whatever is on the other side, which taps right into a cat's love of stalking and peeking. A little supervision goes a long way on laundry day, though. Keep detergent pods and bottles of bleach or fabric softener closed and out of reach, since many cleaning products can irritate a cat's mouth and skin. Check the dryer before starting it, because a warm, dark drum full of towels can tempt a curious cat inside. And if your cat likes to bat at the clothespins, consider clips that are too large to swallow.

Domino will probably make another pass through the sheets once Ken turns his back. Fresh laundry and a nosy cat have been partners in mischief for a long time, and this house is no exception.
