Grandpa Started Dancing in the Kitchen. His Sphynx Had the Perfect Reaction.

Some song must be playing, because Clarence has broken into a slow, swaying dance in the middle of the kitchen. One arm is raised, fingers snapping, and his face is crinkled into a wide, delighted smile as he looks down at his partner. Moonpie stands on the tile floor with her tail curled up high like a question mark, gazing up at him with wide eyes. Granite counters, a folded towel, a glass of water and a little row of potted succulents make the scene feel like any ordinary weekday turned special.

That upright tail is worth noticing. In cat body language, a tail held straight up, especially with a little hook at the tip, is generally a friendly greeting and a sign the cat feels confident and happy. Cats often approach the people they trust this way, sometimes adding a head bump or a weave between the legs. Dancing with a pet underfoot does call for a bit of care, though. Older adults in particular can trip over a cat that darts between their feet, so slow moves, good lighting and slip-resistant shoes or socks are worth keeping in mind. Music itself is usually fine for cats as long as the volume stays gentle, since their hearing is much more sensitive than ours.

Clarence may not win any ballroom trophies, but with Moonpie cheering him on, every kitchen dance is a hit.
