The Yard Turned White Overnight, and Grandma Couldn't Wait to Show Pebble
Overnight the yard turned white, and Ruth couldn't wait to show Pebble. She stands close to the old wooden window frame, cheeks pink and smile wide, holding the big grey Scottish Fold up against her shoulder so he can see the view. Pebble's front paws are stretched out stiffly in the air, his toes spread, and his golden eyes are wide with a look somewhere between wonder and mild alarm. Outside, snow blankets the grass and dusts the bare trees, and the late light makes everything glow. Folded blue towels and a cozy room sit softly in the background.
Many indoor cats love a good window view, often called 'cat TV.' Birds, falling snow, and blowing leaves give them something to watch and track, which is a simple, safe form of enrichment. A sturdy window perch or a shelf near a sunny window can become a favorite spot. In winter, cats who do go outside need extra care, as cold weather, ice-melting chemicals, and antifreeze can all be dangerous. Antifreeze in particular tastes sweet and is highly toxic to pets, so wipe paws after outdoor trips and clean up any spills quickly.
Pebble may not be sure about all that white stuff, but he is warm and safe in Ruth's arms, which is the best way to meet the first snow of the season.
