Grandma Dipped Her Toes Off the Dock. Frost Had a Firm Stance on Water.

AI imagenorwegian forest catdocksummer afternoon

Shoes off, trousers rolled, and toes dangling in cool water: Grandma Edie has claimed the end of the little wooden dock for a quiet break. She sits with a soft smile, one hand resting on Frost's back. The silver cat perches on the weathered planks beside her, staying well clear of the water's edge and gazing up toward her face with bright, attentive eyes. His tail spills over the edge of the boards. Behind them, a backyard garden stretches out with hostas, a metal watering can, a pair of gardening gloves, and leafy shrubs along the fence.

Most cats are not fans of getting wet, though there are exceptions, and the Norwegian Forest Cat's slightly water-resistant coat does help a little in damp weather. Even so, docks and open water deserve caution. A cat can slip, and climbing back out of a pond or lake can be very difficult. If your cat joins you near water, supervise closely and keep them on the solid part of the dock. Never leave a pet unattended around pools, ponds, or tubs, and consider a harness for extra security on outings near the shore.

Frost seems to have reached a sensible compromise. Edie gets her cool soak, and he gets to stay dry while still being close enough to lean against her arm.

A dock, a warm afternoon, and a loyal friend who's happy to keep his paws dry: that sounds like a perfect day.
