Grandma Ruth Set Out Breakfast on the Patio. Copper Ignored the Croissant Completely.

AI imageabyssinian catpatio breakfastmorning

Breakfast has moved outside where the morning sun can reach it. On the wooden patio table sits a bowl of oats topped with strawberries and blueberries, a flaky croissant on a white plate, a folded napkin, and a glass of water. Grandma Ruth leans back in her cream cable-knit cardigan with a warm, crinkly smile. Copper has made himself at home right at the edge of the table, sitting tall with his back to the food and his face turned up toward her, ears glowing in the sunlight. Herb pots and a wooden fence frame the little garden patio behind them.

Many cats are drawn to the table at mealtime, but a few breakfast foods are worth keeping out of reach. Grapes and raisins, chocolate, onions, and anything with xylitol can be dangerous for pets, and buttery pastries are too rich for a cat's stomach. Dairy can also cause digestive upset in many adult cats. Plain berries aren't toxic, though cats usually show little interest in fruit. If your cat likes to join you, feeding their own breakfast at the same time can keep them content and less focused on your plate.

Copper doesn't look the least bit interested in the croissant. He seems more interested in Ruth herself, gazing up at her as if the best part of breakfast is simply being together in the sunshine.

A sunny morning, a simple breakfast, and a loyal cat by your side is a lovely way to begin any day.
