Grandpa Ken Hung Out the Clean Sheets. Rocco Saw a Brand New Game.
Clean white sheets flap gently on the line, wooden clothespins clipped in a neat row, and Grandpa Ken is reaching up to pin one more corner. He is laughing, because Rocco has just come trotting through the gap between the sheets, tongue out and ears flopping, clearly convinced this is the best game of hide-and-seek ever invented. A basket of folded laundry sits on the concrete, a pair of sandals is kicked off nearby, and a coiled hose and wooden fence frame the little side yard.
Air-drying laundry is a small pleasure many people still enjoy, and it often draws an energetic dog's attention. Flapping fabric and moving shadows can trigger a dog's chase instinct, which is all good fun until a sheet ends up in the dirt. Giving a playful breed like a Boxer a dedicated outlet, such as a flirt pole, a ball, or a short game of fetch before chores, can help take the edge off. Keep laundry baskets out of reach too, since some dogs love to steal socks and small items, which can be dangerous if swallowed. If your dog ever eats fabric, call your vet.
Ken may need to rewash one or two sheets by the end of the afternoon, but judging by his smile, he would not trade Rocco's company for a perfectly tidy laundry line.
