Harold and Bev Squeezed Into One Recliner for a Nap. Duke Found His Own Spot.
The TV screen is dark, the table lamp glows softly, and the whole household has given in to an afternoon nap. Harold and Bev have squeezed together into one brown recliner, Bev's head tucked against Harold's shoulder, both of them sound asleep in their cream cable-knit sweaters. Duke has claimed the neighboring armrest, his enormous fawn head resting heavily on the cushion, droopy eyelids half-closed and whiskers relaxed. A soft blanket is draped over the top of the chair, and framed family photos line the wall above a small shelf of keepsakes.
Great Danes are known for their love of comfort, and many will happily settle on any cushioned surface they can find. Because they are so large, giant breeds benefit from soft, supportive resting spots that cushion their elbows and hips. A thick orthopedic dog bed placed near the family's favorite seats lets a big dog stay close without needing to climb onto furniture. Shared rest can be genuinely comforting for older adults, too. The steady breathing and warmth of a calm dog nearby can make the house feel peaceful, and the gentle routine of a quiet afternoon together is a simple pleasure many pet owners treasure.
No one in this living room is going to wake up anytime soon. When they finally do, Duke will probably be right where they left him, ready for whatever comes next.
