Grandpa Hung Out a Line of Fresh White Sheets. Copper Saw a Racetrack.

Fresh white sheets hang in a long row on the clothesline, swaying gently in the evening air, and Grandpa Hank is reaching up to pin one more corner into place. That is when Copper makes his grand entrance. The Husky comes bursting out from between two sheets at full trot, mouth wide open, eyes bright, a white curtain of fabric fluttering around his shoulders. Hank glances over with a knowing smile, clearly not surprised in the slightest. A laundry basket sits on the step, a porch lantern glows by the window, and potted plants and a watering can fill the yard.

To a playful dog, a line of hanging laundry is basically an obstacle course. The fabric moves, it smells like home, and running through it is fun. Huskies in particular are energetic and love to run, so they will often turn any open space into a racetrack. If you hang laundry outside with a dog around, a few tips help: make sure clothespins do not end up on the ground where they can be chewed, keep the basket and any detergent out of reach, and check that the line is high enough that the dog cannot get tangled. Giving your dog a good play session first can also mean fewer laps through clean sheets.

Hank's patience says this happens often. The sheets may need a quick shake afterward, but the joy on Copper's face is worth it.

Laundry day has never been this lively, or this fluffy.
