Grandpa Ken Only Sat Down on the Porch Swing for a Minute. Then Mochi Joined Him.
The porch swing has stopped swaying, and both of its passengers are fast asleep. Grandpa Ken leans back against the cushions with his head tilted to one side, glasses still on, wearing a sage sweater vest over a blue plaid shirt. His face is completely relaxed. Mochi lies snuggled right against him on a soft knit blanket, her fluffy cream head resting on the cushion, eyes squeezed shut and one ear flopped over. Behind them, blue wooden siding, hanging chains, and potted plants bask in the warm afternoon sunshine.
Havanese are well known for wanting to be close to their people, and naps are no exception. Many will happily curl up wherever their owner is resting, whether that is a couch, a bed, or a porch swing. Small dogs can get hurt jumping down from furniture, so on raised or moving seats it is wise to lift them up and down, or to provide a small step. On warm days, make sure your dog has shade and access to water, since long-coated breeds can overheat while dozing in the sun. A shady porch like this one is just about perfect.
Neither Ken nor Mochi seems to have any plans for the next hour. The gentle afternoon has done its work on both of them.
The best naps are the ones shared, with a soft breeze and someone you love right beside you.
