Frank and Ruth Sat Down to Watch the Rain. Snowdrop Took the Front Row Seat.
Rain streams off the porch roof in silver threads, soaking the lawn and the trees beyond, but under the shelter of the covered porch everything is calm and dry. Ruth, in her green cardigan and glasses, and Frank, in his plaid flannel shirt, sit shoulder to shoulder on the old bench, quietly watching the downpour. Front and center is Snowdrop, their enormous white Norwegian Forest Cat, perched on the bench like a fluffy cloud. Her thick ruff frames her face, her plumed tail spills over the edge, and her pale green eyes are fixed on the falling water.
Norwegian Forest Cats are built for weather. The breed developed in the cold forests of Scandinavia and has a long, water-resistant double coat with a dense undercoat, tufted paws and a full, bushy tail. They're generally known as calm, friendly and affectionate cats that enjoy being near their families without demanding constant attention. They also tend to love climbing and high perches. That luxurious coat needs regular brushing, especially during seasonal shedding in spring, to prevent tangles and mats. Despite their outdoorsy roots, they're happiest living safely indoors or with supervised outdoor time, like a quiet afternoon on a covered porch.
There's no rush to go anywhere today. With the rain drumming on the roof and Snowdrop holding court between them, Frank and Ruth have everything they need right here on the porch.
