Grandma Was Focused on Her Crossword. Cotton Was Focused on the Breakfast Table.
Breakfast is spread across the round kitchen table: a flaky croissant, a bowl of strawberries and blueberries, a basket of bread rolls and a big mug of coffee. But Grandma Loretta's attention is on the crossword. Glasses on and pen in hand, she's carefully filling in a word, her green cardigan sleeves pushed up for the job. Peeking over the table's edge, Cotton has rested his fluffy white chin and one paw on the tablecloth, his dark eyes turned toward the camera with a hopeful, slightly mischievous look. A spare pair of glasses, a set of keys and a small succulent sit among the breakfast things.
Breakfast tables hold plenty of tempting smells for dogs, but not everything there is safe. Coffee and anything with caffeine is toxic to dogs, and some baked goods may contain raisins, chocolate or the sweetener xylitol, which is very dangerous for them. Strawberries and blueberries are generally considered safe in small amounts, and many dogs enjoy them as a treat, but pastries and buttery croissants are best kept for people. Bichons are prone to gaining weight, so keeping table scraps to a minimum is kind to their health. A small dog-safe snack or a chew can keep them busy while you finish your puzzle.
The crossword may or may not get finished today, but Cotton's charm campaign is in full swing. With a face like that at the table, every breakfast becomes a little sweeter.
