Grandma Hung Out a Line of Clean White Sheets. Cotton Saw a Playground.

Laundry day in the backyard looks like a sea of white. Crisp sheets and towels hang in long rows from the clothesline, catching the late afternoon light. Grandma Loretta, in a gray cardigan over a floral blouse, is pinning up one more sheet with wooden clothespins, grinning at the commotion below. Cotton has found the perfect playground. He's popped up on his hind legs between the hanging sheets, front paws lifted, white curls almost blending into the linen, mouth open in a joyful pant. A laundry basket, folded towels and potted plants sit around the yard behind them.

Bichon Frises are playful, energetic little dogs, and moving fabric flapping in the breeze is hard for many dogs to resist. Play like this is good exercise, but jumping on hind legs again and again can be hard on small joints, so it's best in short bursts on soft ground. Clothespins are a chewing hazard, as small pieces of wood or plastic and the metal springs can injure a dog's mouth or be swallowed, so keep the bag up high. If your dog likes to grab laundry, try redirecting them with a tug toy, and consider hanging the low sheets a little higher until the excitement passes.

The sheets may need a second look for paw prints, but the laughter makes it worth it. With Cotton dashing between the rows, laundry day has never been so entertaining.
