Grandpa Earl Tried to Take One Quick Selfie. Domino Made Sure He Was in It.
Cheek to jowl and grinning ear to ear, Grandpa Earl and Domino have lined up for the perfect porch selfie. Earl leans in with a warm, slightly mischievous smile, his white mustache neatly groomed, his well-worn fishing vest smudged with a little garden dirt and stuffed with pens and pliers. Domino presses his giant spotted head right up beside him, mouth open in a big happy pant, pink tongue showing, warm brown eyes looking straight into the lens. Behind them, the wooden porch, flowerpots, and a soft green yard blur into the evening light.
Great Danes have such expressive faces that it's no surprise owners love taking pictures of them. For a good photo with a big dog, getting down to their level helps, and so does keeping a treat in hand to hold their attention. Patience is key; short sessions with plenty of praise keep the experience fun. Danes are generally affectionate and enjoy close contact with their people, which makes snuggled-up shots like this one easier. One thing to watch: that open-mouthed grin can also mean a dog is warm, so if your dog is panting heavily, offer water and a shady spot to rest.
This one's a keeper for the fridge door, right next to the grandkids' drawings. Two happy faces, one handsome mustache, and a whole lot of spots.
