Grandpa Earl Spread Out a New Puzzle. His Partner Pulled Up a Chair, Literally.

Hundreds of puzzle pieces cover the wooden kitchen table, a few edges already joined into a scene of blue sky and tree tops, and Grandpa Earl is carefully searching for the next fit. His glasses are on, a mug of coffee sits at his elbow, and his fishing vest pockets are stuffed with pencils and lures. Across the corner of the table, Domino is perched on a wooden kitchen chair, sitting impressively upright, his long front legs braced on the seat and his spotted head towering over the whole operation. He gazes down at the puzzle with a serious, slightly puzzled expression, a folded dish towel near his paws.

A Great Dane sitting on a dining chair is a funny sight, but it's worth keeping in mind that giant dogs and ordinary furniture don't always mix. Chairs can tip or break under a big dog's weight, and jumping down from height can be hard on their joints, particularly as they age. Many owners provide a raised, supportive dog bed or a sturdy bench nearby so their Dane can stay close at eye level. Puzzle pieces, for their part, should be kept out of reach of curious mouths, since swallowed cardboard can cause stomach upset.

Domino hasn't found a single piece yet, but his supervision is flawless. Earl couldn't ask for a more dedicated puzzle partner.
