Grandma Lay Down in the Grass for a Quick Break From Gardening. It Didn't Stay Quick.

Somewhere in the middle of yard work, everybody decided it was nap time. Grandma June lies stretched out on the soft grass, her denim jacket rumpled and her long silver braid trailing across her shoulder. Her eyes are closed and her face is deeply relaxed. Snuggled right up against her cheek, Pip has curled himself into a sleepy bundle of blue and tan fur, eyes shut tight, his tiny nose tucked beside her chin. Behind them, the garden still holds the signs of a busy morning: a green watering can, a dropped jacket, a pair of gloves and a terracotta pot of soil.

Dogs often choose to sleep pressed against the people they trust most. It keeps them warm and helps them feel safe, and small breeds like Yorkies especially seek out that closeness. If you enjoy outdoor naps with your pup, take a moment to check the lawn first. Avoid grass recently treated with fertilizers or pesticides, which can irritate paws and skin. Grassy areas can also hide ticks and fleas, so regular preventive treatments and a quick check of your dog's coat afterward are wise. Make sure there is shade available and a bowl of water nearby, especially on warm days, since small dogs can overheat quickly in direct sun.

The gardening tools will still be there after a nap. For now, the grass is soft, the sun is warm and June has the perfect little pillow companion.
