Ruth and Bruno Sank Into the Porch Swing for One Last Rest
The porch swing hangs from thick ropes, and Ruth has leaned her head against the cushion, her eyes closed and her green cardigan loose around her shoulders. Bruno lies curled across her lap with his chin resting on a quilt, his blue collar sitting a little crooked and his tan coat glowing in the last of the sun. Pots of plants line the porch rail, a pair of work gloves rests on a ledge, and a water bottle sits nearby. The sunset behind the trees paints the edges of everything gold. The only movement is the slightest sway of the swing.
A porch swing is a wonderful place for a dog and a person to relax together, but it does not suit every pup. Check that the swing and the ropes can hold the combined weight, and keep the dog from jumping off when it is moving. A heavy Boxer curled on a lap may be sweet, but if he is restless, consider letting him have a cushion on the floor instead. Boxers are short-nosed and can get hot, so evening is a better time than midday. Many people find that napping with a pet lowers stress and gives them a lovely sense of calm after a busy day.
Both of them are breathing slowly and evenly, and neither seems eager to wake up. The evening is going to take care of itself.
