Grandpa Ken Hung Up Fresh White Sheets. Shadow Saw an Agility Course.
Laundry day turned into an obstacle course the moment the first sheet went up. Grandpa Ken stands by the clothesline in a beige sweater vest, a dish towel in one hand and a blue shirt in the other, laughing as Shadow comes bounding through. She is mid-leap, legs tucked, ears pinned back, tongue flying, darting between the white sheets like she is running her own agility course. Wooden clothespins line the rope, a basket of colorful clothes waits on the ground, and a pair of slippers sits by the door.
Bursts of joyful running like this are often called zoomies, and they are a normal way for dogs to release pent-up energy or excitement. German Shepherds are athletic, high-energy dogs, and they generally need daily physical exercise plus mental challenges to stay content. Games like fetch, scent work, and simple obstacle courses with household items can help. When zoomies happen near people, especially older adults, it is wise to give the dog plenty of room or redirect them to an open space so nobody gets bumped. Most episodes burn out within a minute or two.
Ken does not look the least bit annoyed. A few sheets might need a second wash, but the sound of happy paws and a good laugh seem like a fair trade for a little extra laundry.
