Grandma Nell Turned On the Hose. Bluebell Could Not Resist a Closer Look.
Water arcs out of the hose and splashes on the pavement while Grandma Nell kneels beside the soapy old car, smiling at the fun. Bluebell has planted herself right beside the spray and is batting a front paw into the stream, her eyes bright and focused. Her fur is only lightly damp. Behind them a house light glows and the car's side is streaked with suds and mud. Bubbles slide down the door panel and trickle toward the drain, and every splash seems to make Nell laugh a little harder.
Many cats dislike water, but moving streams can be irresistible as a game, especially to cats with a playful streak. A little splashing is usually harmless, but keep her out of soapy puddles, since car-wash products, antifreeze and other chemicals can be toxic if licked up. Dry her with a towel afterward, especially with a long coat, and keep her in a spot where wet fur will not leave her chilly. Antifreeze in particular is very dangerous to pets, so wipe up any drips from the garage and call your vet right away if you think a pet got into some.
Chores go a little slower when you have help like this. The car will get clean, the driveway will get wet, and Bluebell will insist on doing it her way. Nell is smiling the whole time.
