Gus Stretched Out on the Grass. Pudding Curled Up Right Against His Cheek.
Warm sun slants low across a patch of green lawn, where Grandpa Gus lies on his side with his eyes closed and his white hair ruffled by the grass. His cheek rests close to Pudding, who is curled against him in a round cream-colored swirl, flat face relaxed and paws tucked under. Dappled light falls across them, and a wooden fence and a few potted plants blur softly in the background. A few blades of grass cling to the cat's fur, and a distant sprinkler ticks somewhere beyond the fence, keeping slow time for their nap. Nearby, a pair of garden gloves lies forgotten on a flowerpot, evidence that work was planned and gladly abandoned.
Lawns are lovely for lazy afternoons, but they come with a few cautions for cats. Fleas, ticks and other parasites hide in grass, so keep your vet's recommended prevention up to date. Check lawn treatments and fertilizers, which can be harmful to pets, and avoid recently sprayed areas. A Persian's long coat can hold burrs and debris, so a gentle brush afterward helps. Make sure there is shade and fresh water within reach, since flat-faced cats can overheat quickly in direct sun.
A snooze in the grass is one of summer's simplest pleasures. Gus has found a soft spot, and Pudding has found the best pillow. The sun can do the rest.
